Remarkable with products and solution services on Geographic Information System, Başarsoft, organized annual 5th. Mapinfo users conference at Ankara Swiss Otel on 19 October. Conference which aimed Pitney Bowes MapInfo users draw attention from public and private sector users. Conference context included, Başarsoft history, development of today and future and products presentation with partner and customers.

One of the Turkey’s major leading university METU, organized an symposium as its 50 years foundation of Department of Mining Engineering. Symposium started with history of department, contuined with discussing of mining industry’s development back in 60s, now and future of the industry. Problems Turkey’s mining industry problems also took place in the symposium, participations and audience discussed the possible solutions. Universities, public and private sector organizations seemed highly interested in the symposium. We congratulate METU on their 50 years of foundation of Department of Mining Engineering and our pleasure to authorities for delightful and helpful symposium.

Bienal 12. International Ore Preparation Symposium hosted by Hacettepe University was held at Nevşehir on 6 – 8 October. Symposium aims to bring together mining industry professionals, public and private sector delegations, engineers and business men from all around the world in a comfortable ambience and have an exchange of ideas; introduce new technics, technologies and related products. Public and private sector organizations had chance to introduce their products and services during the symposium.

Golder Associates Global Mining Manager and JORC Committee Member Dr. Bill SHAW shared his experiences and opinions with prominent people of Turkey’s Mining Industry in the conference organised by Madenbir (Mining Consultant Engineers Community Society) on 25 September 2010. Conference main subjects include, need for reporting of exploration results, mineral resources and ore reserves standarts as JORC, SAMREC and SME, short history and content of those standarts. Dr. Shaw also shared his opinions about which way Turkey should take to reach stabile reporting standarts. At the end of the conference, audience exchanged information and took decision that Turkey should also have similar standarts for reporting and to create standart an association needed to be constituted.

Press conference about Chile mining accident was held at MMO Central Office on 6 September. Conference contains detailed informations about on-going rescue efforts in Chile and Zonguldak – Karadon mining accident happened in Turkey on May 2010. After this accident, two mining workers body still could not excavated from underground. This question also took place in the press conference. One and only responsible were shown as “bureaucracy”, obtacles about bureaucracy should be solved and go ahead for excavation of two miners body were underlined.

A committee from China Coal Technology and their Turkiye distributor Dempo Dış Ticaret Ltd. Şti. made couple of technical visits and seminar at Soma and Ankara. Committee were briefing Turkey’s coal mining related instituons and firms about technical systems used internationally about methane gas. Seminars were held at Soma on 8 July and at Ankara on 9 July. One of the Turkey’s major and bienal expo, Heavy Machinery, Construction Elements and Building Technologies Ankomak was held at Istanbul on 9-13 June. Ankomak Expo were hosting approximately 250 exhibitors and International attendance were larger considering to last few years. Exhibitors were showing their goods to the guests in 5 different halls and open air area, they were also giving joy to the guests with entertainment shows. Although exhibitors were afraid of low attendance counts, they left expo happily and satisfied.

17.th Turkey Coal Congress was held at Zonguldak Karaelmas University on June 2-4 2010. Advancements in coal mining and current problems were discussed, guided by various panel discussions and demostrations. In addition, exhibition of “Mining Machines and Hardware Expo” attended by public enterprises and privately held companies, where new advancements in the mining sector were exhibited,  was presented to visitor’s interests during the congress.

The conference, whose session moderator was Alan M.Clegg who is the advisor of Turkey’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, was finalized on May 11-13 in İstanbul. During the first two days, new approaches in the mining sector, especially in Project management, new developments of mining technology in the world and in some of the Turkish mines  were mentioned. In the last day of the conference, trip to Erser Ağır Makine production facilities were welcomed by the attendents.

Meeting themed “Mining and Environment in European Union” arranged by Association of Miners of Turkey and EUROMINES (European Association of Mining Industries) was held in Ankara Rixos Hotel on May 10 2010. The organization, which was followed by Madencilik Türkiye Magazine throughly was attended by the authorities of EUROMINES Director Corina HEBESTREIT, environmental manager Johannes DRIELSMA, expert of environment and workplace safety Walter HERMULHEIM, prominents of Turkish mining industry and representatives of various public enterprises. After answering the questions of press members in the press conference held forenoon, meeting took place afternoon. Meeting proceeded with questions & answers after EUROMINE authorities made various demostrations. You can find more information about the meeting in our 7th. Issue.

300 magazines from our 6th. Issue, bought by one of our sponsors who doesn’t wish his name to go public, were distributed to the students of Dokuz Eylül University Department of Mining Engineering, Fırat University Department of Geology Engineering and Süleyman Demirel University Department of Mining Engineering ,  for free of charge under the survey of head of department. As Madencilik Turkey team, we opened a stand in the 63. Turkey Geology Congress to introduce our magazine to mining geologists. Our magazine, attracted great deal of interest by people both  working in the mining industry and engineers of geology who are interested in mining, will continue to participate such events.
